OUR APPROACH TO EVALUATION

With a special interest in consultation and facilitation, RMC consultants have assisted clients in areas ranging from multi-million dollar federal projects to grass-roots, community-based projects - in areas ranging from anti-drug profiteering to the use of helicopters in law enforcement to native alcohol awareness programs to drug education and enforcement.

Our approach to Evaluation is shaped by a number of general guidelines:

  • First, our evaluations focus on issues which will contribute to a more efficient and cost effective management process.
  • Second, key elements of a comprehensive Evaluation which we address include:
    • Direction (e.g., mandate/mission statement, long range goals and objectives, annual goals and objectives, performance measurement),
    • Resources (e.g., personnel, facilities, equipment, training),
    • Organization (e.g., allocation of responsibilities),
    • Strategies and Tactics (e.g., at both corporate and local levels, partnerships), and
    • Support Systems (e.g., financial budgeting and expenditure control, management information systems, communications).
  • Third, key stakeholders are involved at all stages of the evaluation process
    • from the initial planning and design,
    • through the implementation and data collection, and
    • through the development and discussion of results.
  • Forth, information of value to key stakeholders is provided on an ongoing basis throughout the project.
  • Finally, our evaluations are viewed as a positive process
    • not as a negative exercise (e.g. an opportunity to point out mistakes),

      but instead

    • as a positive exercise for all stakeholders (i.e. as an opportunity to set the directions for the next steps to be taken for improvement).
